just played the game last night heres what i think (played on 360):
i loved the game except the 3rd person animation was kinda rediculous. also i thought the "side-game" admire, joke...etc was kinda crappy. also w/ that game its easy to get your speechcraft up 45 levels in 1 hour 30 min is crap w/o training.
I like the haggleing, thought that was kinda neat feature. also loved how they took to mind all the construction set ideas from E3, and incorperated it into the game.
One major down side i saw was the gravity affect on items. If you were like me in the original E3, i loved putting items down in my house; i would spend hours decorating it. But now when you try to pu an item down it throws the bowl, or plate half way across the room. that kinda pissed me off when i bought my house :/.
the fighting in the game is also amazing. TY GOD TYHEY FIXED THE SWORD FIGHTING! casting is nice too, i like the whole different aura thing for each spell, or what i have seen so far.
what i didnt like about the game was the city set. grant it is a feat to marvle at, but it reminded me WAY TOO MUCH of a mock-Roman society. also how did they intorduce horses into the game? I believe their was a game before E3 that took place on the same island, but no horses "/ owell cool feature at that.
P.S: did you hear them talk about SAINT JUIB? last lazy sob on the boat in e3 actually did something! and they talked about how neraver has left the continent to go "questing" somewhere else?
oh and........NO CLIFF RACERS FTW.TY JUIB

Love the game. Probably wont play GW until factions comes out...well see. You can just go exploring out in the countryside for dungeons and caves before er even starting the main quest. I have a level 10 in the assasins guild. Cool thing tonight I could overhear NPC's talking about someone I killed. Love the Radiant AI!

$250+ to play this game? Pardon me while i laugh Meh, seriously though can anyone describe what the mob spawns are like now? In Morrowind it wasn't so good in that you could walk past the same spot several times and almost all the monsters from the game would eventually spawn there.
Have they made mobs region/location specific now?

Why is spending $250.00 on a video card so funny? It is a decent deal actually. My friend spent that amout since the card before it is a X600 OEM from Dell. At some point we all have to upgrade our computers....

" but seriously though" would imply not being too serious about the comment; that said, if it was an upgrade just for one game... that's like paying $300+ for one game, which is a bit silly However, since it was part of a general upgrade then there's nothing silly about it

True...He has been thinking about upgrading for sometime now. This game just foced him to make that call. Since it was a sin to have such a nice system and been using a X600 OEM card that I gave him. He also has the Dell 2405FPW 24" wide screen. That monitor needed a good card.

Factions event? What factions event? You mean something that I can do with the guilds? Guild Wars? Whats that? Some quest? Heh.
So yeah, been playing Oblivion for the entire weekend, runs very well on my old rig ( Athlon64 3000+/ 1.5G PC2700/ GeForce 6800 Ultra), I can have all of the video options maxed out or new maxed out w/ HDR and it more or less runs very smoothly.
As for the actual game- (Warning Kind of Long)
Love the quests, Radiant AI is fairly impressive, nothing revolutionary, but is in general more or less very well done. The environment in general is very well done and immersive; Combat is very fun (for the lower levels at least, but little on that later), and the graphics are superb.
There are things against it though.
First and foremost is the scaling system.
This stems more or less from Morrowind, where as soon as you hit level 18-20ish, everything just died. Dremora, Ascended Sleepers, whatever, 10-20 of them would just fall to any player with a brain and good set of gear and spells. Which was boring and got stupid. So the good people at Bethesda implemented the scaling system with Oblivion, allowing mobs and the game to "level" with you. Entering a cave at level 1 would pit you against rats and the odd bandit with iron weapons and armor. Enter it at level 10 and you would find wolves and the same bandits with mithril and glass weapons and armor. And for those who sit at level 20 + (yeah so I didn't sleep much, so sue me), you would find Liches, Minotaur Lords, and Mauraders and Bandits with Daderic or Ebony items. These mobs would progressively (I think) hit harder and have more hp as you went even higher. Which is actually a great thing, and I believe most people would agree with me. You would never find yourself in the same situation in Morrowind where you would just mow everything down.
The first problem is that EVERYTHING scaled with you. So more or less no matter where you go or what quest you did, ALL of the mobs and loot was around your level, which kind offsets the feeling of immersion you usually get.
It was fun in Morrowind when you were level 5 or something and (foolishly) decided to go exploring in one of the ruins only to have yourself desperately trying to sneak around the baddies that would eat you alive if they saw you for the chance of grabbing some phenomenal gear. Plus in general it added to the environment as a whole, you found high level baddies in the most ancient (daedric) of ruins, and would find the usual riff-raff if you decided to go poking around the hillside (cliff-racers anyone?). And for the sneaking looking sort, when you decided to try your hand at looting the guilds in Morrowind, all of the frustration payed off when you finally got into the vaults filled with ebony and glass armor with a horde of gold and assorted other valubles lying around.
The second problem of the scaling system is the ridiculous amount of HP everything had as you progressed higher, killing something was a lesson in patience, I would groan everytime I spotted even a single Storm Astronach as even with a Daedric Claymore I would spend a good 5 minutes hacking the creature down. It got boring when you spent a good 2 hours on a part of a quest (I hated Kvatch) simply because it took forever to kill everything.
The next thing I disliked was the interface, which reeked of console port syndrome, it isn't bad... but I miss Morrowind's interface. (Oh and I STILL don't know how to drop something out from my inventory. I can sell it, or deposit it in a chest or drawer or something, but straight out hold it in my hands and/or drop it? Nope. )
Blah, I'll continue this later.

Same here, I won't play Guild Wars until Factions is out. Oblivion is just too fun and addicting. I only spent one day trying FPE for only a few hours on Saturday then back to Oblivion. I'm sorry Guild Wars but there's a new RPG in town in the mean time

I've also heard that you can get a unicorn somewhere. I read it on the official Elder Scrolls Oblivion forum. Black horses are the fastest but my favorite are the white horses. Btw, I just finished the Fighter's Guild today. Became Guildmaster. It's pretty fun but now I'm going to try the Dark Brotherhood Guild.

Does this game come with a construction CD like Morrowind did? And if you ride horses all over, can you fight while mounted?

Any technically savvy people want to help me? I'm getting a horrid frame-rate w/ this game. I suppose it might just be my card, but I play guild-wars at max settings just fine. If my card is simply sub-par, I'll probably shelve the game until I get a new vid-card, rather than spend days tweaking things to get a playable framerate. But, if you think my rig SHOULD be able to handle the game okay, maybe I'll spend the time fighting w/ my system.
Specs:
Windows XP
3.2 ghz Pentium 4
2 gb RAM
Audigy 2
ATI All In Wonder X600 Pro (256 MB DDR, PCI Express)
I can only assume the video card is the problem, as everything else is pretty strong. What do you think, a poor framerate is to be expected? Or I should be able to run this game fairly well?

Egg Shen! Read my posts about my friend updating his vid card. He had a X600 card in his system. His system is a 3.0Ghz Intel Dual core, 3Gb ram....he was getting crappy frame rates too.
I would agree with you...you need a newer card.

Thanks for you input. Bummer for me, though. . . not sure I feel like buying a new vid card right away. Game seems like it's going to be pretty sweet once I do!
